The students and I will be working together to develop the Essential Elements of behavior and learning. These conditions will help to guide our behavior and keep us on track as we work and learn together each day.

November 14-18

I am looking forward to seeing you all this week as we meet together with your child to discover lessons learned so far in 1st grade. When you arrive to the room you will be invited to sit with your child at one of the 5 stations around the room. You will have a conference grid listing tasks your child will perform for you. As your child works through the various tasks, you will see evidence of your child's learning with regard to our IB units of study, writing, reading, Language B (Spanish), Math, Computer Instruction and use, Music and Art. Please check off the tasks on the grid as you move through them. You will also be able to view various assessments I have used in formulating marks for your child. There is also a reflection sheet for you to fill out and leave with me. On this, I will ask you to list strengths you notice, areas of work to be addressed and goals to work on for the next trimester. Report Cards, as always, are available via ManageBac. You will be able to log in to view your child's report card beginning Monday, November 14.

Thanks to those of you who have signed up for a time. If you have not signed up, please follow this link and choose a block which best fits your schedule.

Any families who have not signed up by Sunday, Nov. 13 will be assigned a time. Notice of this time will be sent home on Monday.

No red folders will be sent home this week. Students are asked to Log in to RAZKIDS and read books in Spanish for homework this week. This is the only homework for Nov. 14-18. To access books in Spanish follow these steps: CECA home page > STUDENT LINKS > RAZkids > Log in > Reading Room > Spanish Books > Level aa. Students will be able to listen to (and read) books in Spanish.

Have a Terrific Week!

Classroom Supplies

Supplies for Success -

Please do not feel stressed about having all supplies for your student right away the first day. I have prepared our class so that all students will have what they need when school begins. As you are able, however, there are a few specific supplies that I would like each student to be responsible for bringing to school:

1. 5 paper (not plastic) two-pocket folders - each a different color or pattern

2. 1 box of Kleenex tissue

3. 1 pair of child scissors

4. 1 (24 pack) Crayola Twistable Crayons (These are the short ones.)

5. 1 pencil storage zipper pouch (approximately 10"x4")

6. Colored pencils - any brand or count size will be great! We share these with table teams.

7. 1 wide ruled spiral notebook

There is no need for the students to have a personal pencil sharpener.

Thank you very much! I am looking forward to a terrific year of learning.

Curricular Elements

International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Learner Profile

The ten qualities of the learner profile motivate the daily work we explore here at CECA. All ten Learner Profile qualities will be highlighted by the end of the year; two or three will be the focus of each unit of study.

PYP Attitudes

These twelve focus areas help us remember how to show respect for ourselves, our learning and the world around us. Again, two PYP attitudes will be the focus during each unit.

Taking Action

IB students take responsibility for their learning by applying lessons learned both on campus and in their community. Students will be encouraged to serve their community. Hours can be recorded in the appropriate sheet in the red folder.
